Maryland Cannabis Packaging Guide
Effective January 1, 2024, all cannabis products in Maryland must be in packaging that is plain and opaque — no decorative exterior designs, bright branding colors, or imagery. This is one of the strictest packaging standards in the country. MCA cannabis symbol required on front of every package.

Maryland Compliance Rules
Physical Packaging
- Child-resistant: CFR 1700.15 and 1700.20 required for all products
- Opaque: Required. Plain and opaque effective January 1, 2024
- Tamper-evident: Rigid containers require seal or adhesive band. Soft-sided must show visible signs of opening. Soft-sided minimum 4mm thickness.
- PLAIN PACKAGING: No decorative exterior design permitted. No bright colors for branding. No imagery.
- MCA Cannabis Symbol: Must appear on front of package on clearly distinguishable background
- Resealable: All multi-serving products must be resealable
Labeling Requirements
- Licensee info: Name, address, phone number
- Lot number, expiration/best-by date, net weight/volume
- THC content (mg/package) and per serving
- CBD content (mg/package) and per serving
- Itemized cannabinoid content: Full cannabinoid profile required
- Allergen warnings: Required as applicable
- Poison Control number: Maryland Poison Control Center emergency telephone number
- QR code: Linking to certificate of analysis
- MCA cannabis symbol on front, minimum 6 point font, printed in English
